Galway International Arts Festival and Róisín Dubh are delighted to announce that Villagers and John Grant will play a double bill at the Heineken Big Top at Galway International Arts Festival this July.
The two Festival favourites will return to the GIAF stage on Thursday 18 July for what’s sure to be a night of unforgettable performances.
Villagers’ extensive catalogue of songs include ‘Nothing Arrived’, ‘Becoming A Jackal’, ‘Courage’ and new favourite ‘A Trick of the Light’ from their recently released critically acclaimed album, The Art of Pretending to Swim. Adored by critics and fans alike, the Choice Music Prize-winning band will play in Galway following a string of arena shows with Mumford & Sons. The Irish Times said ‘Villagers generate the type of music (sparse, eerie, casually dishevelled, tangibly cool) that will spread beyond the confines of niche appreciation into a great blue yonder’.
American singer-songwriter John Grant is renowned for a string of great albums and amazing live performances that have featured artists as varied as Sinead O’Connor, Kylie Minogue, and the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. The latest instalment to Grant’s astonishing story can be heard on his fourth album Love is Magic, released in 2018 and described by The Independent in a 5-star review as ‘heart-stopping drops of sheer honesty’. Heineken Big Top audiences can also look forward to songs like ‘GMF’, ‘Pale Green Ghosts’, and ‘Disappointing’.

Galway International Arts Festival 2019 takes place from 15-28 July 2019, with Burt Bacharach (Monday 22 July), The Academic (Saturday 20 July), Two Door Cinema Club (Friday 26 July), ORBITAL (Saturday 27 July) and Bell X1 (Friday 19 July) already announced for the Heineken Big Top. More acts are set to be announced ahead of the full programme release in May.
