Northlight Theatre is a nonprofit theatre company located in Skokie, Illinois at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts.
Northlight Theatre began in 1974, and aspires to promote a change of perspective and encourage compassion by exploring the depth of our humanity across a bold spectrum of theatrical experiences. It is one of the largest nonprofit theatres in the Chicago area, with over 6000 subscribers, serving audiences totalling over 50,000 each season.
The theatre has produced hits such as world premieres The Outgoing Tide, Better Late, and Stella & Lou, all of which were seen at Galway International Arts Festival; as well as The Mousetrap, Ella, and the world premiere Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley. Northlight has earned nine Edgerton Foundation New Play Awards.
The Galway International Arts Festival co-production with Northlight Theatre of Christian O’Reilly’s Chapatti, starring John Mahoney and Penny Slusher, premiered in Chicago in March 2014 and played in Galway during Festival 2014.
The company now produces five mainstage productions each year, with a spectrum of work ranging from timely world premieres to refreshed classics. In addition to the mainstage season, programming includes workshops and readings of new works, audience outreach to Veterans and many other groups, a summer performing arts camp, and a comprehensive arts education programme for underserved students.
