First Thought Talk with Emma Rice

Former Artistic Director of Shakespeare's Globe in London and former joint Artistic Director and actor at Kneehigh Theatre in Cornwall for over 10 years, Emma Rice is one of the world’s most visionary theatre directors.

Rice’s many credits for Kneehigh include the legendary productions of The Red Shoes, The Wild Bride, Brief Encounter and Tristan & Yseult, which played at the Town Hall Theatre as part of GIAF's 40th anniversary programme.

For this First Thought Talk titled 'The Power of Theatre', Emma Rice is joined by long–time Kneehigh admirer Noeline Kavanagh, Artistic Director of internationally-renowned, Galway-based street performance troupe Macnas, and Professor Patrick Lonergan of NUI Galway.

Here she talks about her life’s work and the power of theatre and shares insights into her show Tristan & Yseult, which proved to be one of the smash hits of GIAF 17.

Together, Rice and Kavanagh imagine how love is and can be used as theatre’s most powerful tool.
