Suede, The Gloaming, Our Ladies of Perpetual Succour and A Simple Space for GIAF16

5 April 2016

Suede, The Gloaming, hit play Our Ladies of Perpetual Succour and circus act ‘A Simple Space’ are the latest acts to be announced for Festival 2016, which also includes a debut by song-writing legend Elvis Costello and the return of the hugely-popular Bell X1.

Suede: new ground and past glories

In the spirit of true rock ‘n’ rollers, British pop rock legends Suede paved the way for the era of Britpop, spent the nineties on a musical high and retreated, before coming back to rock out at festivals worldwide in 2010. They then took a musical hiatus before unleashing a brand new album and a new sound in 2012. And now they’re back with a brand new album and a feature film, which will provide the back-drop to their gig at the Absolut Big Top in July. Not to be missed!

Where: Absolut Big Top | When: Saturday 23 July, 6:30pm

The Gloaming’s haunting melodies

Trad supergroup The Gloaming’s mesmerising vocals and sweet harmonies are rooted in the traditions of Ireland, skilfully infused with contemporary sounds. Their self-titled debut album in 2014 was hailed as one of the finest recordings of the year and their newest offering ‘The Gloaming 2’ takes their work to new levels. Get ready for an emotionally charged night!

Where: Absolut Big Top | When: Friday 22 July, 7.30pm

Our Ladies of Perpetual Succour’s raucous comedy

Alan Warner’s hit novel The Sopranos’ themes of love, loss and youth are adapted by Lee Hall in Our Ladies of Perpetual Succour. The blisteringly funny musical play, which is fresh from a sell-out Scottish tour, tells the story of six raucous Catholic schoolgirls on a choir trip, hellbent on creating havoc. Think singing, sex and the Virgin Mary, all in one alcohol-fuelled day. A clever and poignant look at life on the cusp of adulthood.

Where: Town Hall Theatre | When: Tuesday 19 to Sunday 24 July

A Simple Space

Seven performers are pushed to their physical limits in this engaging work of acrobatic art. Australian acrobatic company Gravity & Other Myths is one of the world’s most exciting circus ensembles. They’ve already wowed audiences around the world and nabbed an award for Best Circus in 2013. Their latest offering, A Simple Space pushes the boundaries of gravity and human strength. It’s real, raw, frantic and honest.

Where: Black Box Theatre | When: Tuesday 19 July to Sunday 24 July
