As part of the Galway International Arts Festival, this event is a celebration of creativity, culture, and community. Festival-goers can immerse themselves in a unique blend of music, visual arts, theatre and more, making The Saw Doctors' performance one of the highlights of the 2024 festival.
The Saw Doctors have enjoyed a tremendous run of ‘comeback’ shows this year with storming sets at Electric Picnic and Glastonbury Festival as well as sell out gigs in New York at Hammerstein Ballroom and in London at the famous Hammersmith Apollo venue.
The Saw Doctors are powered by Tuam song writers Davy Carton and Leo Moran with a current lineup that includes former Waterboy Anthony Thistlethwaite on saxophone, Kieran Duddy, keyboards & accordion, Rickie O’Neill, drums, Will Merrigan, bass guitar, Noelie McDonnell & Tommy Carton on backing vocals.
“Born into a repressed, catholic, conservative, small-town, agrarian and showband infested society”, guitarist Leo Moran explains, “The Saw Doctors are trying to preserve the positive elements of our Irish background and marry them to the sounds which have culturally invaded our milieu through TV, radio, social media, 45’s, fast food restaurants, 24-hour petrol stations and electric blankets.”
The Saw Doctors debut album ‘If This Is Rock and Roll, I Want My Old Job Back’ went straight to No.1 on its release in 1991, selling a half a million copies worldwide. The second single ‘I Useta Lover’ spent nine weeks at No.1 in the Irish Charts, going on to become the biggest selling Irish single ever.
Galway International Arts Festival would like to acknowledge the support of its principal funding agencies the Arts Council and Fáilte Ireland; its Drinks Partner Heineken; and Education Partner University of Galway.
