A cast of 50 plus a live seven-piece band with musical direction by Julie Feeney perform across 14 stages on a site spanning four acres in this major immersive, open-air production.
Set against a stunning Connemara backdrop, Cogadh na Saoirse [War of Independence] follows Michael, a character from Cathleen Ní Houlihan, into the heart of the conflict, asking the question "What was it like to live through the War of Independence?" The big house, country hall, pub, and fairground come vividly to life as colourful characters share stories that are at once gut– wrenchingly funny and heartbreakingly sad.
A hugely ambitious and visually spectacular new work rooted in the heart of county Galway, Cogadh na Saoirse is the first production by Fíbín as the new company–in– residence at An Taibhdhearc.
Performed in Irish and accessible to audiences with or without the language.
Tá cliar de bhreis is 50 duine mar aon le banna ceoil beo le treoir cheoil ó Julie Feeney le feiceáil thar 14 stáitse ar shuíomh álainn ceithre acra sa mórléiriú tumthach seo amuigh faoin aer.
Suite i dtírdhreach aoibhinn Chonamara, leanann Cogadh na Saoirse scéal Mhichíl, carachtar ó Cathleen Ní Houlihan, isteach i gcroílár na coimhlinte agus cíortar an cheist 'Cén sórt saoil a bhí ann le linn Chogadh na Saoirse?' Caitear solas chomh maith ar an teach mór, an halla tuaithe, an teach tábhairne, agus neart eile le linn do na carachtair tharraingteacha a scéalta brónacha agus barúla a roinnt.
Saothar nua mórthaibhseach thar a bheith uaillmhianach atá fréamhaithe i gcroílár Chontae na Gaillimhe é Cogadh na Saoirse, an chéad léiriú de chuid Fíbín ina ról nua mar chomhlacht cónaitheach in An Taibhdhearc.
