Spanning ten years, this exhibition traces the evolution, visual concerns and subtle shifts in direction of Ger Sweeney’s work.
From the layered geometries of earlier works to the more recent play and enquiry into the conventions of landscape painting, Decade endeavours to explore and expand how we engage with painting as image or spectacle.
This exhibition includes selected paintings from Sweeney’s notable large–scale solo shows of the last ten years, including Syntheses and Notes from a Silence.
Part 1 of the exhibition will open from 3 August at Galway Arts Centre while the artist creates new work as artist–in–residence.
Part 2 of the exhibition opens during Galway International Arts Festival and includes a selection of Sweeney’s large new works created during this residency, alongside selected smaller pieces from the artist’s recent Still Point series
