Set to be the theatrical highlight of the year, Enda Walsh’s new play Ballyturk, starring Cillian Murphy will open this year’s Galway International Arts Festival with a bang.
“Gut-wrenchingly funny and achingly sad”
Following on from the phenomenal success of the internationally-acclaimed hit play Misterman, which premiered at last year’s festival, Cillian Murphy will return to the stage alongside Mikel Murfi and Stephen Rea for what promises to be an exceptional theatrical experience.
Co-produced by Landmark Productions and Galway Arts Festival, Enda Walsh’s gut-wrenchingly funny and achingly sad play will also feature jaw-dropping moments of physical comedy.
Ballyturk is Enda's first new play in four years and his first since he won a Tony Award for Once, the Broadway musical, currently on a major US tour and running in New York and London's West End
Speaking to the Galway International Arts Festival from London this week, Enda Walsh said,
"I'm delighted to have been given the opportunity of reuniting with friends and making this new piece, Ballyturk, at this summer's Galway Arts Festival. Two years in its dreaming and making, come July it will be a very exciting moment for all of us to share this production with the festival audience."
Ballyturk runs at the Black Box Theatre, Galway from 10–27 July, with the world premiere scheduled for Monday 14 July, the opening night of this year's festival.
