Behind the bar of their northern pub, the Landlord and Landlady welcome their regulars with open arms, lending an ear to tales of celebration, loss, love and despair. Bickering yet inseparable, they keep spirits high with drink, banter and hard-won humour.
But what is their story? When an unexpected guest arrives, the couple are forced to confront their own past, and, perhaps for the first time in years, truly speak to one another.
Performed by actors Clelia Murphy and Patrick Ryan playing 14 characters, Jim Cartwright’s poignant play is deeply moving and funny, and offers an intimate portrait of a community and the lives that shape it.
