‘I drank three glasses of scotch and ginger ale before we’d even cleared Coney Island. I didn’t want to come home. It was then that I decided to write you these letters.’

On a crisp winter’s day in New York, Willem gets the call. It’s Mum. Pauli’s died. Come back to Amsterdam. An unforgettable homecoming to an estranged family, a lost love, unsettling sex and an unexamined life.

In June 2016 Belgian directing sensation Ivo van Hove won the 2016 Tony Award for Best Director for Arthur Miller’s 'A View From the Bridge'. Before that, he scooped the Olivier Award for Best Director 2015. Other recent theatre credits include Enda Walsh and David Bowie’s musical 'Lazarus', New York; Sophocles’ 'Antigone' starring Juliette Binoche, London, Edinburgh and New York; and Arthur Miller’s 'The Crucible' starring Saoirse Ronan which is currently running on Broadway.

'Song From Far Away' is written by the Tony and Olivier Award–winning English playwright Simon Stephens ['The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night–Time'] with music by singer/songwriter Mark Eitzel. Toneelgroep Amsterdam is the largest repertory company in The Netherlands and one of the most prominent and acclaimed theatre companies touring internationally.
