Brú Theatre

Somnium

directed by James Riordan with the company composer Julianna Bloodgood

A woman at night. A vocal ritual. An invocation. And then to rest.

Part theatrical concert, part immersive soundscape, Somnium is an experimental merging of vocal performance, movement and image. A triptych of fevered dreams with songs woven through moving bodies and ancient prophecies, finding inspiration throughout Greek, Slavic and Irish myth.

Brú Theatre returns to the Festival following a sell-out run of Not A Word in 2023. With new music from Brú Associate Artist Julianna Bloodgood [Ologón], and co-created by James Riordan in collaboration with theatre maker Philippa Hambly [Cleite] and visual artist Jane Cassidy, Somnium questions what we might be missing, what’s to be released and what might be restored.
