Stateside is Jackie Nickerson’s fragmented visual diary of a decade living and working across the USA. From Chicago streets to Hawaiian military sites, Utah deserts to New York skyscrapers, she captures fleeting, often disquieting moments using whatever camera is to hand.
Rather than defining place, Nickerson traces recurring motifs, chain-link fences, basketball courts, and suburban houses, revealing patterns of control, repetition and unease embedded in everyday environments. Her images are reworked as layered compositions, re-photographed to form an unsettled and evolving portrait of contemporary America.
An American-born British artist, Nickerson lives between County Louth and London.
Stateside is a Highlanes Gallery National Tour presented in partnership with Galway International Arts Festival and the Butler Gallery, Kilkenny.
