''awash''
1 - covered with a liquid, especially water
2 - inundated, overwhelmed by/with

Awash is a collection of street photography by Galwegian artist Ciarán MacChoncarraige, in which the camera is a salve for the deluge of modern life.

Painterly, expressionist and vibrant, this work is an intimate, vivid portrait of the urban experience, using Galway City as a canvas. Obfuscating the human form with textured foregrounds, reflections, and motion blur, this work is abstractly documentarian - leaning aesthetically into the surreal, while still firmly rooted in street photography’s observationalist traditions.

Can keen observation lead to belonging? In the age of the ’attention economy’, what does it truly mean to pay attention?

About Satellite Projects & Studios:

Satellite Projects is a new artist-led initiative based in Galway City. Developed in response to the growing need for affordable creative infrastructure, it provides artist studios, residencies, exhibition and project space opportunities, venue hire for artists and cultural organisations, and professional development support for emerging and established practitioners.

Founded by Galway-based artist and producer Tom McLean, Satellite Projects builds on over a decade of experience in the arts and supporting artists through exhibitions, open calls, artist development programmes, primarily through the establishment of Outset Gallery. The initiative was created to provide much-needed space for artists to make work, develop ideas, collaborate, and connect with audiences. It responds directly to the challenges facing Galway's creative community, particularly the shortage of affordable workspace, exhibition opportunities, and independent artist-led infrastructure.

Located in the heart of the city, Satellite Projects seeks to strengthen Galway's cultural ecology by retaining creative talent, supporting artistic experimentation, and fostering connections between artists, audiences, and communities. The project operates as both a practical resource and a cultural hub, providing the infrastructure necessary for artists to develop ambitious work while contributing to Galway's reputation as a vibrant centre for contemporary culture.

The initial development phase of Satellite Projects has been supported through an Elevate Award from Galway International Arts Festival, enabling the establishment of the space and laying the foundations for its future growth. This support represents an important investment in Galway's creative community and the development of long-term artist-led cultural infrastructure within the city.
