GIAF Volunteer Louise Borre wins Volunteer Ireland Award

10 December 2018

The GIAF team is proud to announce that stalwart Festival volunteer Louise Borre was awarded the national Volunteer Ireland Award in the category of Arts, Culture and Media this weekend.

Out of over 500 overall nominations, Louise was shortlisted with two other volunteers in her category and was awarded the top prize trophy and certificate Friday night.

An integral part of the GIAF volunteer team since 2013, Louise serves as a Big Top Team Leader at the Heineken Big Top, among other roles, and continually goes above and beyond to lend a helping hand throughout the Festival. She has been volunteering in the Galway community since childhood and is particularly passionate about issues surrounding mental health and homelessness (read more about her journey here). Galway Housing Action Group, Serve the City Galway, Cúirt Festival of Literature, Galway Theatre Festival, Pieta House, Cosáin Mental Health Wellness Group, Clifden Arts Festival and COPE Galway are just a few of the local organisations to have benefitted from Louise's dedication and passion for volunteering.

Louise is also nominated for a Community Hero Award at the national Charity Impact Awards, to take place this Tuesday, 11 December.

The annual Volunteer Ireland Awards recognise and celebrate extraordinary volunteer contributions in 11 categories. The ceremony took place Friday 7 December at the Carlton Hotel in Blanchardstown, Dublin.
