Resurgam The English Cornett and Sackbut Ensemble

Monteverdi’s 1610 Vespers

Monteverdi’s 1610 Vespers is a masterpiece of the early Baroque period on a dizzyingly opulent scale.

Monteverdi’s setting of the Vespers unites the grandest combination of voices and instruments with the most intimate solo songs. Resurgam, The English Cornett and Sackbut Ensemble form the core of a richly-varied ensemble that includes consorts of violins, recorders, the brilliant cornetti, and the burnished sonorities of sackbuts — all underpinned by a lavish continuo section of chamber organ, violone, harp and theorbo.

For this performance the virtuosic voices of Resurgam are joined by local choirs Cois Cladaigh and Collegium, and a specially selected ensemble of children’s voices. Galway’s 1610 Vespers will be one to remember.
