Sarah Hickson is a photographer whose practice explores the relationship between people and place, often focusing on the role of the arts from a wider social or humanitarian perspective.
Much of her recent work explores themes of migration, displacement and transition. Her GIAF 2018 show Sounds Unseen captured life in the ‘Jungle’ refugee camp in Calais. The Festival has commissioned Hickson to work with people who have lived or are living in direct provision in Galway. This project commences this summer with Hickson’s work in progress exhibited here. The results of the project will be fully realised with an exhibition premiering during GIAF 2020.
