Music for Minorities

Mikel Rouse

The star of New York's Next Wave Festival 2006 makes his Irish debut with Music for Minorities, a fascinating integration of film, music and performances.

This must-see event reflects the trademark blues style of his roots in Louisiana and the Southern delta. On split screens, moving stories are told in fragments as Rouse plays guitar and sings songs accompanied by a soundscape of percussion anf multiple guitars.

High art meets popular cultures as the mix and match aesthitic of the early 80's Manhattan music and art scene are brought together in this entirely original and affecting method of storytelling that has been compared by critics to hearing Bob Dylan for the first, in terms of a totally new and different sound and approach.
