ConTempo String Quartet - Summer Series

ConTempo String Quartet and Galway Arts Festival come together to present this series of concerts with special guests from Ireland, Argentina and Canada. Founded in Hungary in 1995, ConTempo have been Galway's Ensemble-in-Residence since 2003.

Concert No.1

ConTempo Quartet: Galway Singers, Director Audrey Corbett

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS. Celebrating the 100th birthday of Shostakovich and the 250th birthdy of Mozart. Mozart's 'Hunt' Quartet,K.458, Shostakovich's Quartet no. 14, Op. 142. Mozart choral pieces include Te Deum,K. 141, Regina Coeli, The Voyager's Chorus from Idomeneo, and Ave Verum.

Concert No.2

ConTempo Quartet: Douglas McNabney, viola

VIENNESE CLASSICS. Toronto's Douglas MsNabney has toured and recorded worldwide and has worked witht the world's finest string quartets. Quintets by Mozart, K.593 in D Major; Beethoven, Op. 29 in C Major. Haydn's Quartet in D Major, Op. 20, No.4.

Concert No.3

ConTempo Quartet: Niamh o'Connell, mezzo-soprano, John Feeley, guitar

ITALIAN SUNSHINE: One of the few original works for soprano and string quartet, a setting of Shelley's 'the Sunset' ('Il Tramonto') by Respighi, features in this programme of music by Italian composers. John Feeley joins ConTempo for two quintets by Luigi Boccherini. Operatic composer Giacomo Puccini is represented by his quartet, 'Chrysanthemen'.

SOUTH AMERICAN RHYTHMS: Expereince the magic of the Tango and other South American dance rhythms as ConTempo team up with Dermot Dunne and Ariel Herandez
