Galway International Arts Festival Volunteers Break Records

Almost 600 volunteers supported the Galway International Arts Festival team in 2017, breaking all previous volunteer recruitment records.

In addition to helping transform the city for 14 exceptional days, engaging attendees and greeting national and international visitors, 450 registered volunteers supported the Festival in music, theatre, visual art, street spectacle, comedy, First Thought Talks, and Ambassador roles. Another 150 assisted with one of the Festival's most exciting free outdoor street events, The People Build.

This dramatic endeavour transformed one of Galway’s landmark locations, creating an incredible cardboard building – inspired by the Aula Maxima in NUI Galway - which rose up into the Eyre Square skyline.

Volunteers worked for days to make the The People Build one of GIAF's most engaging spectacles ever.
GIAF volunteers came from 39 different countries and all four corners of the globe, from Korea to Australia, and from Canada to South America. Almost 50% of the volunteer force hailed from abroad.
A huge thank you to all the exceptional GIAF volunteers. You made 2017 the best year yet!
