The Times ★★★★

When Sinead O’Connor first burst on the scene thirty years ago nobody could quite believe what they were seeing and hearing. She seemed to have arrived fully formed and possessed of prodigious song writing skills, and a soaring and spectral voice, winning her millions of fans worldwide.

O’Connor’s 2015 Meteor Choice Music Award nominated album, I’m Not Bossy, I’m The Boss, is one of the artistic high points of her career infusing the spirit of funky blues with a fresh exploration of the age-old theme of romantic love the album is a tour de force.

It is just over a year since the release of John Grant’s critically lauded second album, the exquisite Pale Green Ghosts which The Guardian described in its 5-star review as “hard to imagine a more enjoyable and rewarding hour of music being released this year.” Grant’s exquisite debut Queen of Denmark, one of the most deeply satisfying debut albums of recent times, was a beautiful and poetic album with an irresistible appeal of sad yet optimistic love songs.

Grant and O'Connor have performed together previously with O’Connor providing her distinctive and chilling voice on backing vocals on Pale Green Ghosts. This Festival Big Top concert promises to be one of the highlights of the summer.
