van Hove’s adaptation of Arthur Miller’s seminal work is opening at the Kennedy Center in Washington next month
‘A View From the Bridge’, the critically acclaimed reconception of Arthur Miller’s seminal work by GIAF16 sensation Ivo van Hove is opening at the Kennedy Center in Washington next month. van Hove recently wowed audiences and critics at GIAF16 with ‘Song From Far Away’.
‘A View From the Bridge’ is loosely based on Miller’s gripping drama about family bonds and personal honour. van Hove’s dark, lustful re-imagining has been hailed by the critics, with The Times calling it “one of the great theatrical productions of the decade.”
van Hove has gained critical success for his work on the play. In 2015, he won the 2015 Olivier Award for Best Revival of a Play and, in June 2016, he scooped a Tony Award for his role as director.
‘A View From the Bridge’ was first presented at the Young Vic in London in 2014, before opening in Broadway and Los Angeles. Centre Theatre Group will tour this production of ‘A View From the Bridge’ to the Kennedy Center for a limited four-week run.
The Kennedy Center
The prestigious Kennedy Center is America’s national cultural centre. In July, two acclaimed GIAF shows, ‘rivverrun’ and ‘A Girl’s Bedroom’ opened in Washington as part of Ireland 100: Celebrating a Century of Arts and Culture.
‘Song From Far Away’
‘Song From Far Away’ had its Irish premiere at GIAF16, and it was adored by the audience and critics. The play was written by award-winning playwright Simon Stephens and directed by van Hove. van Hove’s other theatre credits include Enda Walsh and David Bowie’s musical 'Lazarus', 'Antigone' starring Juliette Binoche, Arthur Miller’s 'The Crucible' starring Saoirse Ronan and ‘A View From a Bridge’.
‘A View From the Bridge’ runs November 18 through December 3, 2016 in the Kennedy Center’s Eisenhower Theatre.
