Screen & Theatre Greats Gather for Arlington Abbey Opening

14 February 2017

An emotionally raw and powerful performance of Arlington marked the opening season at the Abbey Theatre last night.

Arlingon at the Abbey - an 'Unforgettable Experience'

It was an historical day for GIAF and the Abbey Theatre yesterday as Landmark Productions and Galway International Arts Festival's Arlington marked the opening of the theatre's season. This is the first time that a GIAF co-production has played the Abbey, and to mark the special occasion, Tony Award-winning playwright Enda Walsh and choreographer Emma Martin were joined by a host of screen and theatre stars while Arlington played to a packed Abbey Theatre.

Stephen Rea, Michael McElhatton, Aidan Gillen, Camille O Sullivan, Jean Butler, Moyà Doherty, John McColgan and playwright Conor McPherson were among the huge array of well-known personalities from the theatre, television and entertainment world.

Arlington, which premiered at Galway International Arts Festival 2016, was one of the hottest tickets of GIAF 2016, with The Stage calling it "a tremendous exploration of the transcending of circumstance" and The Guardian describing it as a "richly theatrical experience…".

Starring Charlie Murphy, Hugh O’Conor and Oona Doherty - the original cast of the production, and reuniting the world-class creative team behind Misterman and Ballyturk, Arlington is a compelling ode to the human spirit and its powers to endure.

Arlington runs at The Abbey Theatre from 10 to 25 February.
